Laptop Overheating causing Hard Drive Click sounds

It has been found out by many laptop users that laptops do overheat. Just like other machines like the desktop, if they are not used properly and there is no regular maintenance they may overheat.

There is this interesting scenario where if you use your laptop when tilted at certain angle, the laptop will overheat and will go off. When you use it when placed on flat surface it will not overheat. The explanation behind this is because air currents usually flow perpendicular to the fun and there is a large surface area for the currents to enter the fun. When you tilt your laptop less surface area is exposed and the laptop may overheat and switch off.

The main cause of this overheating is a faulty fan. If the fan is not working properly, then the hard drive will heat up. This is because the hard drive is electronically charged and when running emits heat that needs to be cooled by the fan. When the hard drive heats up, it will expand. This expansion may cause expansion of the internal components within it and thus, as the drive is running, some components could be touching each other consistently and cause click sounds.

If you have or are experiencing this, it would be good to backup as much data as possible. First of all, let the laptop cool. Restart it and then begin backing up your data. But if your laptop hard drive has crashed because of the overheating, you can get a data recovery expert to look at it and recover your data. All you have to do is to give them your hard drive and they will use all the necessary software, tools and technology to carry out the recovery.

  1. One of the most common problem in laptops is overheating. The main reason behind overheating is that the CPU chips and video chips in laptops are closely packed with transistors that generate heat.
