Does your computer freeze often? Here’s why

So you have been working on a certain program and then it suddenly stops working! When you try to issue a command, it seems it does not accept it. You may even move the mouse and try to navigate it and it fails? Computer freezing is a term used by IT specialist to mean that the computer is unable to process certain instructions. So why may a computer freeze? Here are some reasons why:

Lack of enough space on the RAM and Hard disk: Computers crash simply because of lack of regular maintenance and also because of saving a lot of information on it. Most computer systems freeze due to overloading of both temporary (RAM) and permanent storage (hard disk). It is advisable that the RAM has at least 25% free memory left. The result of overloading the computer with a lot of information is it will become very slow i.e. it will take a long time to look for the necessary information necessary for processing your instruction. It is also necessary to perform regular defragmenting of the hard disk to utilize as much space as possible. If you don’t know how to do this, seek professional help.

Installation of new Software: Not all software that you install on your PC or laptop is compatible and thus may not perform as fast as expected. There is some software that is really large and takes quite a lot of disk space. If the PC started freezing immediately after installing new software, then it means it is the software that is slowing the system down. One may opt to uninstall it. Also, there are some operating systems that don’t allow non-genuine software and once you install such software, the computer freezes.

Viruses: A virus is a computer program that is designed to corrupt files in the hard disk. It is designed to replicate itself to affect as many files as possible. One very common way of infection is through frequent visits to the internet, downloading stuff from unknown sites and introducing storage devices infected by viruses to your PC. It is also known that viruses can be sent through the email. Since the files are corrupted, the system is unable to interpret them and thus will freeze. The way to protect your PC from infection is by installing ant-virus software that can be updated regularly and scanning should be as often as possible.

Installation of new hardware: If you had introduced a new piece of hardware to your PC and then the system slows down, it means that the new hardware is not compatible with your PC. To solve this problem, one may uninstall the suspected hardware and reboot the PC. It may or may not work but it will reduce the chances of computer screen freezes.
