A variety of Data Backups

Off-site Data Backup System: In this kind of system, the backup information is set up in a different location/ building from that of the organization. It mainly employs the use of online backup system where the information is stored in some server located in a remote area. This backup is automatic and does not need many storage devices. Some of the advantages of this system are that data is protected in the event of a disaster that may occur at the original site, it is automated and thus one doesn’t have to go looking for some storage device to save their data, time is saved, it employs cross platform technology where backup is done regardless of the operating system that has been used and it creates more data security as the only way to access the data is through authorized passwords.

On-site Data Backup System: In this kind of system, the backup information is set up in the same location/ building of the organization. This system employs the use of physical storage devices such as floppy disks, USB flash disks, external hard drives, CDs and DVDs. This kind of system is effective the organization is not large and if the information stored is needed by customer regularly for their own reference.
The disadvantage of this system is that these storage devices can easily be damaged and can also get lost easily. They are prone to viruses which can spread from one user to another. Another disadvantage is that in case of disasters like floods or earthquake, both the original and the backup are destroyed at the same location.

Server backup system: If you work in a certain organization, it is advisable that you save your data in the company’s server. It is much more safe to keep your data there than to keep it in your PC or laptop. This is because your laptop may get stolen or may drop and get destroyed. Also, your PC may get infected by a virus and thus may lead to data loss. Therefore, you can opt to save your information on the server and make sure that you use security measures such that it is only you who can access that information.
