How human beings may cause data loss

As far as I know, there is no perfect human being. Man is due to falter at any point. The unfortunate thing is that at times the motives of man can be ill-directed and thus may purposely cause data loss. Here are some ways human beings may cause data loss:

Carelessness: There are people who just like joking and take matters very lightly. In the process, they tend to be careless and if they are handling a computer, may cause you to lose data. For example, if someone has his laptop in his bag then he begins swinging the bag freely, the strap may cut and the laptop may drop! Disaster happens. Another way people can be careless is not taking care of their property e.g. if one leaves a laptop in a cyber café and the laptop is unattended to, it will be stolen. That is being careless. One has to always realize that not all people have good intentions. Other situations of carelessness is hitting or giving the hard drive a good tapping or even knocking it so that it works properly. Take care of your hard drive as it has important information.

Bad motives: Believe it or not, there are people who actually don’t like seeing others succeed. This is why they will do everything they can to try and destroy someone’s data or cause data loss. Here, I am talking of thieves, hackers and arsonists. Thieves are out to steal your laptop that has your valuable data. It has been said that 2000 laptops are stolen or lost ever day. Hackers are out to enter into the computer system of a certain organization and may delete some information, corrupt information and even introduce a virus to the system. Arsonists will look for ways of burning down your business because of jealousy or a deal gone bad.

Mistakes: Personally, this is where I think most human beings cause data loss. It is possible that at some point when working with your PC, you accidentally deleted a certain file or folder, even from the recycle bin. It is also possible that in the process of working with a file, a certain dialog box came up and you did not read what was on it. You then pressed ‘OK’. Looking for the file later on, you notice you had accepted a command to delete a certain file. Whatever the situation, these things do happen and it catches people by surprise. It is also unfortunate that at times when carrying your laptop, the strap snaps and the laptop drops. That was clearly not your fault. What one can be advised to do is to try and be careful as often as possible. Take time as you do your work on your computer. Don’t be in a hurry. Take time and read the pop up messages that appear on the screen.
