Don’t do your own Data Recovery

So you have been working on that final year project and then suddenly your data gets lost! Or worse still, you are the IT manager of a well established commercial bank with a large database. In the process, a virus is introduced into the network of the bank and wipes out the entire information in the database! So you decide you will try and recover the data on your own. Here are some reasons why I suggest that is a very wrong decision:

You may make things worse. One thing you have to note is that you really don’t know where the exact problem lies. Trying to fix things on your own may cause major destruction to your data. For example, you may opt to use data recovery software. But you have to install. So what if you install the information and it overwrites information that is already present in the hard drives? That means you will lose your data permanently. So don’t try and do the recovery on your own.

In the process of trying to fix the problem on your own, you may tamper with other components without knowing. This is just to add weight to the point above. You may assume that the problem comes from a certain point and while in the process of trying to fix the identified part, you may tamper with some components without knowledge and this make matters worse. So, it is advisable to keep off after data loss.

Another reason why you shouldn’t do the recovery is because it’s a waste of time. Just as there are professionals in accounting, marketing and other fields, there are also specialists in data recovery. Leave the work for the experts because trying to do their work is wastage of time. It would be good to focus your strengths on what you are good at rather than do someone else’s job.
