Computer crashes- Some basic causes

Hardware Problems: If some part of the computer hardware gets damaged and repairs and maintenance is not done regularly, then your computer is bound to crash. Hardware problems may also be due to power surge. Since some hardware can only handle a certain amount of voltage, when a power surge occurs, the hardware may not be able to handle the voltage and thus will get damaged and eventually the computer may crash. It is advised that PCs should always have a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to deal with the power surges and outages.

Infection by computer virus and spyware: A virus is a program written to interrupt the normal operations of a computer. Just as the name suggests, it infect the system and then replicates itself into various components in the computer system. Spyware, on the other hand, is software that interferes with the interaction between the user and the computer. Once either of the two software infect the computer, there is bound to be data loss and eventually computer crash. This is why it is advised that after buying a new computer or laptop, it is important to install anti-virus software and/ or anti-spyware software. These software will detect and others have the capability of deleting the virus.

Problems occurring in the registry database: The registry database is one of the system utilities that are included in the system files of the operating system. Some of the problems the registry database may experience are the database becoming too large without maintenance for quite a while (say 1 year) and also corruption of the registry database. In the case of the database becoming large, it causes flooding of memory resources leaving very little space on the RAM to run an application. This will lead to usage of virtual memory and if the situation worsens it will lead to a computer crash. In the case of the corrupted registry database, some critical information will be lacking for your operating system and this leads to computer crash.
